A domain name allows you to receive e-mail at a customized e-mail address. For example, if your business's name is ACME, INC., you could register the domain name ACME.COM. Your e-mail address could then be "yourname@acme.com". Your customers would also be able to look at your organization's website by typing "www.acme.com" in their web browser.

If your organization doesn't have its own domain name, your potential clients may assume that your company isn't established.

Yes, they're out there, but don't expect a whole lot from this type of hosting provider. They require you to place there banner advertisements on your homepage that can pull your potential customers away from your website. These banner ads give your company an unprofessional image to anyone browsing your website. Sure, you can save some money, but if you are really serious about setting up your business on the Internet, I would strongly recommend that you stay away from the free hosting providers.

THE DIAL-UP PROVIDER
Almost every dial-up Internet service provider offers some form of web hosting services along with their dial-up service. But their primary focus and investment is on providing services for their dial-up clients. Chat rooms and newsgroups share the bandwidth, (speed of the connection to the Internet), with your website that can slow down the access to your website. It's rare to find a dial-up ISP that can provide excellent service for their hosting clients as well as their dial-up access clients.

VIRTUAL HOSTING PROVIDERS
Virtual hosting service providers can host several companies on one or more servers.
